Abstract
Conduction speed, electromyogram and biopsy of nerve and muscle in eleven patients with nonalcoholic liver cirrhosis revealed the existence of a subclinical peripheral neuropathy in seven patients, three of whom showed a segmentary demyelinization as histological manifestation. In one case potentials of fibrillation in resting state were observed in the electromyogram and two patients had muscular atropy. Connecting these data with the status of carbohydrate metabolism, in one case it is coincident in a diabetic patient, in five cases the carbohydrate derangement is defined by glucose 'intolerance' and in two cases it is completely excluded.
