Abstract
Abstract: After analyzing the gestation and content of the four short stories that Luisa Carnés wrote in Mexico based on issues previously devised in Spain —texts that she gathered in 1954 in a volume titled La camisa y la virgen. Novelas, still unpublished—, this article offers a first approximation to the reasons why the writer cultivated this literary genre and the procedures used during the writing process. His vision of an obsolete Spain, in which women were irremediably subjected to traditional gender roles, constitutes the ultimate objective of this study, in which the work of criticism and interpretation carried out allows us to make known and value a part of her narrative production, and put it in relation to the author’s literary universe.
