Abstract

The article is based upon research in colonial archives of Sección
Femenina of the Spanish Falange, together with oral testimony collected in the field about the social and political participation of Sahrawi women. It demonstrates how colonial interventions in the sexgender system, in addition to transforming the lives of Sahrawi men and women during late colonialism (1958-1976) and the subsequent period of national liberation, imposed metropolitan economic, social and cultural interests. This work inserts a feminist decolonial perspective within the different disciplines and methodologies of history and anthropology. To be sure, the intervention into precolonial sex-gender systems was an indispensable operation in the colonial logic.
