This article presents the results of research carried out in 16 Ibero-American countries with 1,080 university students of communication who reflected on the importance and use they make of social media in their social relations and in their informative and communicative processes. Based on 32,400 data items, the study identifies an international trend in the information habits of students in social media and cyber media websites. In addition, the article warns about a terminological confusion in the students' notion of decisive concepts related to social networks and the new digital communicative scenario.
