Abstract

Chapter objectives: To provide an introduction to the features of non-probabilistic sampling and how it differs from probabilistic sampling; To discuss quota sampling and purposive sampling, how they are used and the importance of transparency in describing sampling methods; To describe the uses of snowball and self-selective sampling and their strengths and weaknesses; To consider the role of key informants in accessing samples.
