Abstract

© 2016 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston. This paper aims to examine the Mediterranean relationships established by Mithridates VI Eupator, king of Pontus, during his conflict with Rome. The Pontic king maintained ties with the pirates and with Q. Sertorius, leader of the populares against L. Cornelius Sulla. Besides this, he probably negotiated with the Italian socii, who rebelled against Rome due to a new refusal to grant them the Roman citizenship.
