Throughout his last twenty years, which he lived in exile, Lluís Nicolau d'Olwer wrote a monograph on the philosopher and theologian Peter Abelard. At last, after several vicissitudes, his book has recently been published. It is, without doubt, Lluis Nicolau's magnum opus and it obliges us to revise and complete any previous contributions made on Peter Abelard's work and thought. This article aims to analyze Abelard's concept Christian humanism. In all of his former writings, Nicolau has only used the term humanist to refer to authors from the Renaissance. Nevertheless, this book shows that, right back during the Medieval times, Peter Abelard can already be considered a humanist.
