Abstract

This article deals with easy-to-understand languages, ranging from easy to plain language, in both written and spoken texts. It provides an account of the variations in nomenclature in this field, and provides a series of practices and tips, with particular regard to the situation in Catalonia. It outlines the legislative panorama there and highlights some experiences in a number of different contexts. It also discusses three challenges: the need for empirical research into current guidelines, the role of technology, and the need to go beyond the written word.
