Abstract

© 2014 EMH Swiss Medical Publishers Ltd. All rights reserved. This paper presents a subclass of phrasemes that has received scant attention from lexicologists and lexicographers: pragmatemes. Pragmatemes are statements linked to a particular situation. This situation presents a task that the pragmateme performs by the means of a speech act and a ritualized form. First, we analyze how the Spanish phraseological tradition analyzes pragmatemes. Then, we examine how pragmatemes are presented in Spanish-French bilingual lexicography, in Spanish monolingual lexicography and in a number of Spanish phrasebooks. Finally, we present our inventory (under construction) of Spanish pragmatemes.
