Abstract
During the period 2012-2013, the Catalan university libraries were fairly successful in maintaining their general level of activity, in spite of the cuts in state funding that affected all areas of the library system. As the writers observe, cooperation between different library centres was decisive in mitigating the effects of diminishing budgets. The paper starts by describing the various programmes and projects promoted by the Consortium of University Libraries of Catalonia (CBUC). It then examines the libraries' main objectives during this period and the work they did to achieve these. This included the improvement of physical spaces, IT resources, collections (both printed materials and virtual collections), services (resources for learning, teaching and research), personnel and budgeting. The paper concludes by describing a series of the activities conducted in library planning, management and communication.
