Abstract
The Alt Empordà plain (north-east of Catalonia) in the 1970s presented an intensely humanized and diversified landscape as a result of human action over the centuries. The use of remote sensing for land use location of 1977 and 1993 allows us to detect and analyse the produced changes, during these years, in the study area: intensification of certain herbaceous crops, increase of urban surface and tendency to the homogenisation of the landscape. The methodology used for available digital images classification has taken into account plot fragmentation, typical of Mediterranean landscape, and the high temporal dynamics of herbaceous crops, predominant in the area.
