Abstract
This article deals with the question of indirect translation of contemporary Chinese fiction into Spanish, which has been so rarely analysed in translation studies. Lack of research and existence of hidden indirect translations prove the current vision of disease of indirect translation. Translation of contemporary Chinese narrative (1980-2007) into Spanish offers an ideal context for the analysis of this phenomenon, since more than half of the translations have been done from English or French. The article argues that the syndromic perspective, unlike that of disease, offers interesting tools for analysis, as indirect translation can shed light on the relationships between literary systems.
