La televisió local a Catalunya: gestació, naixement i transformacións (1976-2005)

Local Catalan television has undergone a series of profound changes since its birth in the early 1980s and is at present facing the change to Terrestrial Digital Television (TDT). The result will have little semblance with the pioneer medium of the '80s. The doctoral thesis titled the same as this paper describes and analyses the trajectory of these changes and is the first to document the evolution of local television in Catalonia from its conception in the late 1970s to the development of TDT-a technology that is once again changing the features of Catalan local television. The present paper discusses the motivation for and objectives of the doctoral thesis as well as its underlying theoretical framework. The paper also includes an overview of the main references on the subject and possible lines of future development.
