Abstract
The analysis of stories as cognitive structures narratively organising specific biographic events has a long tradition in qualitative research. Typically, these narratives develop in oral or written forms. Nevertheless, there are other means of narrative reconstruction of life trajectories. This article analyses one of these alternative forms of narrative re-construction, concretely what has been called life satisfaction charts. By means of a holistic and comparative analysis of 52 charts coming from 26 biographic interviews, the article explores the effects of several individuals' social characteristics on the form and detail of these representations. Cognitive capacity linked to socioeconomic situation seems to be the most relevant factor.
