Abstract

his text features a proposal for register and analysis of the materiality of the Spanish Civil War bombings on Barcelona. The article is based on the archaeological analysis of Sant Felip Neri Square, an iconic place in the city, which was bombed on 30 January 1938 by the fascist air force. It features the historiography of the bombings in Barcelona and the antecedents in Spanish Civil War archaeology, as a context to frame an archaeology of bombings for an overall approach to the war in the city. Finally, it advocates the heritage and memorial interest of the documentation and archaeological study of the remains of the bombings as materially relevant phase in the rich site of Barcelona, as well as support of certain documentary sources that are particularly useful to interpret the type of archaeological record left by a bombing
