Abstract

The goal of this article is to provide theoretical and practical keys to justify the inadequacies of the participatory research-action method in the present century. This is due to profound transformations both in the social environment (fragmentation, polarization, hyperconnectivity, urbanization, inequalities) as well as within knowledge (the emergence of theories of complexity and chaos). They have led us into exploring a reformulation of their original approaches and practices. Thereon, from a proactive approach, we present a methodological development born from an update to educational practice: community research-action. This methodological perspective integrates both the critical aspects addressed through our practice of participatory research-action, and tries to surpass them through renewed approaches. It does this through participatory research-action cycles that place the construction of community social structure at the center of these processes. They are developed through three great successive moments: activation, link and transformation.
