Abstract
This text explores the "carnival spirit" in the architecture of Gaudí and Jujol, where buildings transcend material utility to become free forms of artistic representation. Drawing on Gottfried Semper’s theories, the author analyzes two primary strategies: the tattoo, where ornamentation highlights the underlying structure, and the mask, where structure and form fuse into an indivisible whole. Jujol further evolves this tradition by incorporating objets trouvés and recycled elements, transforming functional tools into poetic symbols. His work bridges Modernism and Surrealism, creating an "inhospitable" aesthetic that challenges conventions and invites a contemplative, metaphorical experience of reality.
