Iodide‐selective electrodes based on a mercury‐triisobutylphosphine sulfide complex

Ion‐selective electrodes (ISEs) were developed by impregnating plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) membranes with a complex of triisobutylphosphine sulfide and Hg2+. The electrodes were selective for halides and thiocyanate, iodide being the preferred anion. The overall selectivity pattern of the electrodes was I−> SCN− ≈ Br− > Cl− > No 2− ≈ ClO 4− > No 3− ≈ SO 42−. The electrodes were evaluated in both batch and flow‐injection modes.
