Metallothioneins (MT) play an important role in the pathological processes concerning the central nervous system. Due to their antioxidant properties, CReSA and UAB researchers intracerebrally inoculated transgenic MT-1+2 knockout mice with a TSE strain to try to understand the existing relation between MTs and the pathogenesis of scrapie
