Abstract

The events of the twenty-first century highlight the urgent need for a just energy transition to ensure planetary habitability. As fossil fuel resources decline and contribute to the climate crisis, a shift to a decarbonised energy system is imperative. The energy transition, while gaining support, presents socio-environmental challenges, particularly for the Global South and vulnerable communities. This transition must include feasibility and fairness issues, addressing existing power imbalances. Limited citizen participation and inequalities further complicate this process. This edited book explores the legal, social, and environmental aspects of the energy transition, advocating for a sustainable, empowered, and inclusive energy system.
