Abstract
This chapter aims at providing some advice, recommendations and ideas to integrate machine translation (MT) into second language classes for all the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) levels. Proposals for this chapter have been inspired by the MutlitraiNMT Erasmus+ project, "Machine Translation For Multilingual Citizens" (multitrainmt.eu), in which project partners created a book and activities on machine translation for language learners and translators. MT literacy skills developed in the proposals herein presented are: (i) understanding MT as a door to multilingualism; (ii) understanding when and why to use machine translation; (iii) understanding how machine translation technology works; (iv) learning how to prepare texts and sentences for machine translation (pre-editing for MT); (v) evaluating machine translation quality; (vi) learning how to correct and review the output of machine translation (MT post-editing) and (vii) understanding MT issues related to ethics.
