Abstract
Quantitative suspension and carrier tests were used to compare the activity of Perasafe® and Cidex® against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare, Mycobacterium fortuitum, and Mycobacterium chelonae. The interference of an organic load, and of hard water was also considered. Both agents achieved reductions exceeding 105-fold within 20 and 30 min for all the strains tested. Perasafe® is thus mycobactericidal and a viable alternative to Cidex® for intermediate or high-level disinfection. © 2003 The Hospital Infection Society. All rights reserved.
