Abstract

Using an indirect ABC method with an anti-somatostatin serum at the light microscope level, immunoreactive somatostatin was detected in the bovine pineal gland. Both positively stained yuxtaposed granules probably corresponding to nerve fibers, and pineal cell bodies were observed, which may correspond, respectively, to central, pinealopetal nerve fibers and to somatostatin containing pinealocytes.
