Abstract

El Siglo Pintoresco (1845-1847) is a magazine representative of the triumphant national and conservative Romanticism at the time. It is, by its contents, layout and history, a «Pintoresco» (Picturesque) and «Universal» Spanish magazine that shows the transition between two conceptual models of periodicals that were published in Spain between 1836 and 1849. The magazine offers the exposition of the local that was represented in the picturesque press and the opening to international of «universal» journals. However, it does not exist yet an analysis of this review or an index of collaborations and engravings included in its pages. This paper offers a history of the magazine, an examination of its contents and its conservative romantic ideals despite changing owners and literary managers. It offers to the scientific community an index of the magazine in order to facilitate the study of specific aspects of this publication.
