Abstract

The authors have applied statistical analysis to mineralogical composition and trace-element data of samples from several quarries known to be mined by the Romans. Rock from these quarries was distributed throughout the Roman Empire, and Roman population patterns can be used to determine the origin of the artefacts. XRD and XRF analyses of 11 marbles and other rocks mined by the Romans are presented.-P.Br.
