The aim of this article is to show a wide set of procedures to verify the signalling hypothesis against the Human Capital hypothesis as determinant of wages in Mexico. The main conclusion is that, despite of the existence of certain level of signalling in the Mexican labour market, the Human Capital Theory continue to be the best explanation in determining wages and their differences. The data base used were the Household Budget Survey 1994 and 1996.
