Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess the impact of a gamification proposal called Fitcoin Race: overcome the challenge for the promotion of healthy habits within the initial teacher training. Two hundred and fifty-five students enrolled in the subject "Physical Education in primary education" have participated in the experience. The perceptions and opinions of the students have been analyzed through the data obtained in an individual questionnaire and the reflections made in the learning folder that the students elaborate on the subject. There have also been qualitative assessments made by the teams participating in the Fitcoin Race (54 teams). The proposal, developed during the pandemic, has been valued as a successful, innovative activity with great educational potential. The gamification process accompanied by cooperative learning has meant a total success in the motivation and participation of the students, highlighting that one of the strongest points of the project was the commitment to teamwork. It is considered that the project would be viable for its implementation at times that are not affected by a pandemic and that, in addition, there is the feasibility of its transfer to the primary education context through corresponding adjustments, since it manages to promote healthy habits in a highly motivating way.
