Abstract

PANEL OTS is a longitudinal study coordinated by the research group on psychosocial risks, work organization and health (POWAH) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) with the participation of the Institute for Work Studies (IET) of the same institution and the ISTAS - Fundación 1º Mayo de Comisiones Obreras. Its main objective is to know how work organization affects the health of salaried workers residing in Spain. The present report shows the results of the baseline (first wave) of the PANEL OTS study, through aggregated indicators structured into three sections: practices of labor management, exposure to psychosocial risks and state of health. 13.9% of wage earners say that they often or always have to extend their working day, 68.8% affirm that there is a lack of personnel in their company and 65.8% that the work planning is not realistic. They also highlight high exposures to psychosocial risks at work, especially as regards emotional demands (53.4%), work-life conflict (64.7%) and lack of recognition (75.1%) and social support from colleagues (70.1%) and superiors (69.1%). Women are more exposed to most harmful business practices in labor management and psychosocial risks, as well as worse health outcomes than men.
