Abstract
This study is based on the renditions of ten mediator-interpreters (MI), five for the Arabic-Spanish / Catalan combination and five for the Chinese-Spanish / Catalan combination. All of them participated in role-playing situations in Public Service Interpreting in the education and social services contexts. The mediator-interpreters' renditions have first been classified according to Wadenjsö's categories (1998), and then a mixed approach (quantitative and comparative) has been adopted to compare the two linguistic combinations. The low proportion of close renditions is discussed in the conclusions, and the fact that most participants had more experience as intercultural mediators is suggested as a possible cause.
