Abstract

In this paper we analyzed the correspondence between Joaquin Gonzalez Echegaray and Julio Martinez Santa-Olalla, related to the excavations in Mogaret Dalal (1960-1961), the first excavations in the Near East conducted by a Spanish archaeologist. This study allows us to better understand Gonzalez Echegaray's work methods, the social and academic relations that conditioned his work in Jordan, as well as his unpublished project to excavate in Tulul adh-Dhahab (Penuel).
