Abstract
This paper analyses the treatment given to letters and phonetic information in general in the 1884 edition of the DRAE. Compared to previous editions, the twelfth edition reorganizes and systematizes the information contained in the entries and removes data considered unnecessary. In addition, its relationship with other works of the Real Academia Española can be clearly seen in it, especially with grammar, in its sections about prosody and spelling.
