El trasllat de topònims minoritzats vist des del cas ídix

This paper examines the often problematic interplay between linguistic minoritisation and the rendering of place names in literary translation on the basis of the Yiddish case. After introducing the notions of endonym and exonym, naturalisation and transfer are discussed as primary techniques for rendering toponyms. The phenomenon of linguistic interposition, which is very frequent in the case of minority languages, is then presented, as well as the way in which it can favour the indirect transfer of minority endonyms from third languages. Finally, a translation strategy is advocated which reflects the perspective of the primary subjects of the source text and which does not force the translator to become a minoritising agent.
