El trasllat de topònims minoritzats vist des del cas ídix

Linguistic minoritisation makes the placenames of the affected languages invisible in favour of the toponyms of the dominant co-territorial languages. The case of Yiddish illustrates this dynamic, as can be observed in a corpus study on the translation of toponyms from Yiddish literary works. The study reveals a large number of interferences, i.e. indirect transfers from third languages of Yiddish endonyms with no equivalent in the target language. On the basis of the data obtained, the hypothesis is advanced that the minorisation of the target language counters the tendency towards interference. Finally, a strategy is proposed for dealing with the transfer of minoritised toponyms which, far from claiming an unattainable neutrality, recognises the active role of the translator and places the primary subjects of the source text at the centre of his or her decisions.
