Abstract

The article aims to analyze the role of sectoral collective bargaining in shaping the gender wage gap (GPG). The paper focuses on three sectors of activity that are illustrative of different configurations of the GPG (banking, the chemical industry and elderly care). Its main aim is to determine how collective bargaining addresses the factors that possibly shape the physiognomy of the GPG in each case, identifying the merits and deficiencies in the regulation, as well as designing possible solutions. Building on an analysis of the legal framework and case law more generally, the article then addresses specific elements of the studied collective agreements. The key dimensions analyzed are: staff selection and recruitment; job evaluation and professional classification and promotion; pay (pay structure and pay systems); working time from the perspective of work-family reconciliation. The article concludes with some final reflections.
