Abstract

An enhancement of the coercivity, HC, has been observed in SmCo5 when ball-milled with antiferromagnetic NiO powders. Moreoever, after short-term milling, these composites exhibit very high values of the squareness without need for particle alignment. Classical ΔM plots show that short-range exchange interactions are predominant for fields H < HC, while long-range magnetostatic interactions prevail for H > HC. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
