Effect of initial conditions on the speed of reaction-diffusion fronts

    Abstract

    The effect of initial conditions on the speed of propagating fronts in reaction diffusion equation was discussed using the Hamilton Jacobi theory. The transition between quenched and nonquenched fronts were studied both analytically and numerically for parabolic and hyperbolic reaction diffusion. It was found that nonexponential initial profiles affected the speed of the fronts.
