Controls were carried out on those rabbits in which only excipient (water and carboxymethyl-cellulose) was administered, this being over the same period of time (3 days) and with the same quantity of liquid (5 ml/day). No variations in metabolism of the antipyrine were shown. In the group of female rabbits, treated with Co-trimoxazole, the half-life of antipyrine (t1/2) showed a 34% (p<0.05) reduction, and the total body clearance (Cle 1.h-1) increase by 40% (p<0.05) (see figure 1 and table I). When the treatment was trimethoprim, the half-life was diminished in 52% (p<0.025) but the total body clearance only increased 17% (see table I). When sulfamethoxazole was used, the half-life (t1/2) diminished only 22% (p<0.05) and the body clearance showed no changes.
