Abstract
This project attempts to develop a geographic information system (GIS) for forest fire fighting in Spain. Their specific goals are ignition risk evaluation, propagation process simulation, and planning the location of extinction resources, according to both fire potential and human settlement vulnerability. Priority is given to the three goals above because they have been identified as the main core of a GIS for forest fire ignition and propagation factors - both triggering and sustaining - is considered to be prior to any further analysis, either oriented to optimize the location of extinction resources or to the evaluation of prevention practices and policies.
