Abstract

The traceological analysis of the manufacturing macrotraces on ceramics recovered from the Quatre Pilans I site (Lleida) (Middle Neolithic I), compared with ethnoarchaeological and experimental references, has documented two forming sequences in their formation processes, distinguished by the body construction technique: the use of juxtaposed spiral patches in one case and the coiling of fine and alternating coils in another. In addition to identifying the modeling techniques used on the pottery from Quatre Pilans I, these results expand both the temporal and geographical knowledge of the modeling techniques employed during the early phases of the Neolithic in the northeastern Iberian Peninsula and the Ebro Valley.
