Abstract
The first aim of this paper is to show Maragall's knowledge and sympathy towards Portuguese literature. The Iberian framework, inspired by the author himself, but especially driven by Catalan nationalism in its variety of traditions, extends Maragall's reception throughout the whole peninsula and in a unique way in Portugal. Pascoaes' saudosismo finds in Maragall's public figure and particularly in his most intimate lyricism, a reference to his theoretical background. Spiritualism will be claimed at all times and in an organic way by those Catalan lusophiles or Portuguese intellectuals who declared themselves Maragall's heirs, both concerning the Iberian ideality or the most sincere and purest lyricism and their idea of imperialism.
