Abstract
In line with the Brighton Declaration (British Sports Council, 1994), Spanish and Catalan governments have clearly committed to policies for equality in sport. The political desire to resolve situations of inequality in sport is evident, but how can words be transformed into actions? How can these policies be put into practice? How do sports bodies react to these proposals? What effect will they have? What resistances may arise? To study these questions, the research team and the Servei d'Activitat Física (SAF) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), have been working together since 2006-2007 on the design, implementation and evaluation of a project to promote female participation in the SAF. This collaboration between the SAF and the research team, has enabled us to analyse the process of introducing measures for the promotion of equality in sport within a sports organisation and to evaluate its development and results. This article describes, firstly, the theoretical perspective adopted in the design of the equality project. This is followed by a description of the project, and the actions that were performed. Finally, we highlight the main findings observed over the course of this experience
