Abstract

On 22 March 2023, the European Commission published the Proposal for a Directive establishing common rules promoting the repair of goods. The adoption of this Proposal for a Directive is part of the European Union's strategy of the European Green Deal and its objective of sustainable consumption. By creating a new type of contract, called a contract for the provision of repair services, the European Commission aims to extend the lifetime of certain tangible goods beyond the period of the legal guarantee (art. 10 Directive (EU) 2019/771) through a set of instruments: the obligation to repair goods for which reparability requirements apply; the duty to inform consumers about the obligation to repair; the creation of a national online repair platform and the European repair information form.
