N2 - The contribution to stellar energy loss is considered that would result if finite-range baryonic and.or leptonic forces exist. By requiring that these new interactions do not upset standard models on stellar evolution dynamics upper limits are placed on their strengths. In particular, α E <4×10 -26 is found from solar data and α E <4×10 -28 from data on red giants for the fine structure constant α E of a force coupled to the electronic number. © 1986.
