Abstract
The authors describe their 3 cases of congenital median fissure of the neck, observed during a 9 yr period. These observations were made from a total of 205 congenital malformations of the neck (that is 1.5%) and all 3 were clinically typical. Although the etiology of the median fissure of the neck is still unknown, the authors believe, on the basis of their anatomo-pathological results, that it is an induction abnormality. The authors describe their surgical technique (irregular longitudinal incisions) which gives better results than the Z plasties they had adopted.
