Abstract
In the firts decades of the 20th century the cultural movement know as Noucentisme («of the 1900s»), and its foremost spokesman, the philosopher Eugeni d'Ors, maintained a position against cinema. The rapid growth of the cinematographic phenomenon in catalan culture was interpreted as an attack on the values defended by the noucentista writers and theorists: classicism, the art of individual expression, and opossition to the industrial world.
