Abstract

The voltage induced by an alternating current is derived for an ideal ferromagnetic cylinder with a linear local magnetization curve ending by a sudden saturation, based on which practical formulae relevant to inductive measurements of the circular hysteresis loop and the susceptibility of soft magnetic wires are recommended. The anomalously large circular susceptibility discovered in amorphous soft magnetic wires is further studied using the present results. © 2004 IOP Publishing Ltd.
