Abstract
An engraving of the siege of Barcelona in 1714, printed in Vienna in 1718, is headed with the motto Barcino magna parens. Despite its clear Virgilian resonances (georg. 2, 173), the clause was crafted in the height of the Renaissance, as a product of two independent and consecutive acts of counterfeit-one epigraphical and the other historiographical-, featuring Pere Antoni Beuter and Jerónimo Román de la Higuera.
