Abstract
In this article we edit and analyze an unpublished lecture by José Luis Álvarez de Linera on the city of Babylon, read in 1907 at the Sociedad Malagueña de Ciencias Físicas y Naturales. In this conference, Álvarez de Linera developed the historiographical myth of the Mesopotamian megalopolises, i.e. disproportionate spaces symbolizing oriental anti-values (despotism, depravity, lust, cruelty).
