Abstract
This text is the assessment report of the Youth Mentoring Programme designed and implemented by the Fundació Autònoma Solidària and commissioned by the department of Social Action of the local council of the city of Sabadell. More specifically, it includes the assessment of the full deployment of the programme in 2017-2018. It explores the process and impact of the programme on the school engagement and the aspirations of the mentee youngsters, on the training and lessons learnt by the mentor students from UAB, as well as on the perceptions and evaluation of the teachers and the institutions involved (high school, university, and local council). The assessment has been carried out from a realist perspective and has been contrasted with the existing literature drawing on the review carried out in the evaluation of the pilot phase. The results show a successful process, although the need for a sustained intervention beyond one school year becomes also clear in order to become an effective tool to prevent ESL. It also describes an exemplary model of social transference from the university to the wider society, especifically addressing the population sectors most at risk of social and education exclusion in the close-by area
