The paper analyses the students' assessment practices employed by the university teacher in the European Higher Education Area context. The objectives are to describe the evaluation practices and to identify the preferred evaluation model and its implementation at three of the Catalan Universities. The methodology consists of an administration of a face-to-face questionnaire to a sample of university professors. The results demonstrate that the assessment practices are still focused on the learning aspects and just a few teachers are involved in assessment by competences strategies. The interpretation of the results leads to a better understanding of the present scenario and suggests changes to improve the adaptation of the competencies evaluation model in the ECTS context.
